What Makes Healthy Food More Beneficial Than Fast Food?

What Makes Healthy Food More Beneficial Than Fast food?

The main problem with fast food is that meat is usually considered to be the main portion of the meal. According to certain media CNN and NPR say that meat is okay to have but too much of it can increase the chance of getting heart disease and even cancer. Originally meat is meant to be a side dish like potatoes or corn for example. The main portion of your meal should be something healthier! The average human metabolism is so used to consuming meat on a daily basis that if can be quite difficult to find a decent alternative. But never fear! Christina Pirello’s “What to Eat Instead of Meat” can easily help you out with that problem. This article contains a list of awesome, healthy vegetarian alternatives to add to your meals.

One of the main reasons why most people don’t even consider going Vegan/Vegetarian or just trying out a healthy diet in general is because they are under the impression that healthier foods are more expensive than fast food. Fortunately, this isn’t always the case. Yes, the Happy Hen eggs at Whole Foods are much more expensive than the getting eggs at McDonalds. McDonalds also fries the eggs for you making it much more convenient. So why would you ever want to buy the “overpriced” eggs at a Whole Foods store? I’ll tell you why. First, the eggs at McDonalds are most likely fried in unnecessary oils that are not okay for the body. A little oils every now and then is ok but if you can literally see the grease/oil on your food that is definitely not ok. Oil is supposed to make it easier to cook food and or make it taste better. Second, McDonalds uses pre-cooked eggs that are put in airtight bags in order to be stored in the freezer along with the bacon and patties use to create the beloved sausage McMuffin.

Here are your eggs before they are cooked..

Now I don’t know about you but I’d much rather have my eggs look like this before they touch the frying pan.

Just a personal preference.

With that said, Happy Hen eggs don’t sound too bad now do they? If you want to get technical the only considerable bad thing about Whole Food’s eggs is that you would have to fry them yourself. I’m sure you’re wondering what are Happy Hen eggs anyway? Well according to the Happy Hen farms website, Happy Hen eggs come from Happy Hen Farms. These farms are pretty neat because they do not harm nor do they abuse their animals. The hens are naturally healthy and happy not overweight and injected with steroids and hormones that can cause health problems for both hens and humans. Plus, a side of McDonalds scrambled eggs is $2.20 and a case of 12 Happy Hen Organic Eggs is $7.00. Say you like eggs for breakfast every morning, if you do the math you can see of you go the healthy option you’ll have eggs for almost 2 weeks depending on how much you eat. Whereas in McDonald’s case 12 sides of eggs would be $26.40, $7 verses $26 I guess fast food isn’t a cheap as we think it is after all.

Now don’t get me wrong, it is possible for fast food to be convenient under certain situations such as if your on the go, in a rush, and or don’t have it often. For example having lunch at McDonalds everyday is not going to be very beneficial to you. Say you get a burger, some fries, and a drink off of the dollar menu. By the end of the week you’ve racked up 21 bucks when you could have used that to buy ham, cheese, pickles, or whatever else you like on your sandwich and make it yourself for around half the cost. But say if you usually make your own lunch and decide to stop buy McDonalds every week instead of everyday. That’s only three dollars so it doesn’t cause too much of a dent in your wallet. Everybody wins!
